Releasing Emotional Cording: Helping a Teen Embrace Change

A client recently reached out to me with an unusual problem involving emotional cording. She has a 14-year-old son, and every day she drives him to a prestigious school. The school is excellent, but it’s far from their home—it takes an hour and a half to get there, and after school, she has to pick him up and drive him back. The long drives were becoming exhausting and unsustainable.

To make life easier, the mother decided to rent a temporary apartment near the school and move there with her son. However, the boy refused to even consider leaving their home. His resistance was frustrating because his attachment to their house was so strong that he couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. That’s when the mother came to me for help.

During our session, I discovered that the boy had a deep emotional cording—an intense attachment to their home, like an invisible thread holding him back. This emotional cording made him resistant to change, even though the move could significantly improve his daily life. Together, we worked on releasing this block and freeing him from those emotional ties.

A few days later, the mother called me with incredible news. After our session, her son agreed to move without any problems. Even more surprising, he loved the new place so much that now he doesn’t want to return to their old home!

This story reminds me how often our inner blocks and emotional attachments limit us, keeping us from embracing new possibilities. But once we release these invisible threads, the world can open up in ways we never imagined.
